Visionary Leadership Conference (VLC) 2025 – Day 1 Highlights
The visionary leadership conference was such a transformative experience. It brought together influential leaders, innovators, policymakers, and changemakers from across Africa and around the world, both in Lagos, Nigeria, and virtually, for an extraordinary three-day experience that redefined what leadership can be in today’s complex world.
The conference began on Thursday, 23rd October 2025, with an extraordinary Pre-Conference Roundtable, a gathering designed exclusively for female executives, senior leaders, and culture shapers navigating the complexities of leadership in today’s world.
DDK opened the roundtable with a stirring exploration of The Double Burden of Female Leadership, challenging us to rethink the patterns that shape their leadership identities, to embrace the fullness of their voice, and to lead with the courage that honours both their brilliance and their humanity. She reminded us that “the visionary life is a life worth living, it is empowering.” Her insights set the atmosphere for what became a transformational evening.
Mentorship Masterclass with Carolyn Buck Luce: Designing Your Next Decade with Clarity, Courage, and Purpose
The highlight of Day 1 was the exclusive mentorship masterclass with Carolyn Buck Luce, renowned executive coach, author, diplomat of leadership, and creator of The Decade Game®.
Carolyn delivered one of the most profound leadership sessions of the year, guiding us through the internal architecture required to shape a decade of intentional impact. She pointed out that power is neither good nor bad; it’s simply energy, and the world needs leaders who know how to harness it with wisdom and courage. In her words, every individual stands at a crossroads between victimhood and agency: “You can either be the victim or the heroine of your story. What would a heroine do?”
Throughout the session, Carolyn emphasized that becoming an impactful leader starts with daring to be, not just daring to do. When leaders align deeply with their identity and purpose, their actions naturally become bold, grounded, and transformative. Purpose, she explained, is not simply an inspirational idea but a personal theory of change: a conviction about how the world gets better and the unique contribution each person is called to make. This led us into breakout rooms for reflective exercises that helped surface the deeper motivations, values, and experiences.
Carolyn also introduced the concept of an EPIC Identity, a practical framework for defining one’s brand: who you are, what you care about, where your influence lies, and why it all matters.
The masterclass concluded with a rich, interactive Q&A session, where attendees shared what resonated most with them and asked deeply personal questions that sparked meaningful reflection across the room. It was an atmosphere filled with clarity, connection, and collective insight.
