It’s comfortable to believe that all that you are now is all you can ever be.
It’s comfortable to tell yourself that your IQ can’t increase beyond a certain number or your personality and character is set in stone and there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it.
But guess what? Psychology is about to kick your butt and shatter that table you’ve been sitting on for too long.
Carol Dweck, the renowned psychologist, says that a simple belief about yourself can change the way you live your life and the kind of results you get from life.
In her words, she says, “When you enter a mindset, you enter a new world.”
Do you realize that you can become a better version of yourself with practice, passion, strategy and education?
Carol Dweck, in her book – Mindset: The New Psychology of Success – calls this the Growth Mindset.
I totally love this mindset.
Adopting the Growth Mindset is believing that you can become smarter, friendlier, more compassionate, more caring, more loving;
Entering the Growth Mindset is believing you can score higher grades, you can become a better speaker, writer, communicator, teacher, developer, executor, and the list is endless.
It is believing that you can succeed at your new job, business or ANYTHING you want to become, even if you currently have no knowledge of what the field you are interested in entails.
It is embracing the lifestyle of a lifelong LEARNER.
Stepping into the Growth Mindset is believing that you are LIMITLESS and that there’s endless potential in you waiting to be unravelled for the world to see.
Hey you, yes you, listen to me.
Stop attaching all sorts of negative labels to yourself. Stop telling yourself you are not intelligent enough, you are not smart enough, you are not prolific enough and get to WORK on developing yourself.
You can change and grow; you can evolve simply because you are not a STATUE.
You are meant to MOVE. That’s why you are a human being.
You can GROW physically, mentally, socially, intellectually and spiritually!
Personally, my ONE big goal for 2021 is to GROW.
Adopt the growth mindset this year. Seek out experiences and situations that will stretch you beyond what you are used to. EMBRACE CHALLENGES THIS YEAR and GROW.
Stop saying, that’s the way I am, I can’t change. That’s a fine way to be childish.
In 2021, GROW!!!
Don’t spend time thinking about who rejected you, the things you did that made you look dumb, the tests or exams or interviews you failed. Rather, focus on becoming, focus on GROWING!
Focusing on self-growth is your way of telling God that you are ready to handle all the great things He wants to give to you this year.
I would end with this beautiful quote from Carol Dweck, she says “Why wasting time proving who you are over and over again when you could be spending time getting better?”
